Journeys Out of the Body

Journeys Out of the Body

I started having out of body experiences when I was 16. I’m now 40 years old, and have been having them my entire life.

I used to be obsessed with the paranormal. From ages 15 to 25, I was completely absorbed by it. I created a website, PsiPog.net, and spent a lot of my time hanging out with the community that grew there.

When I was 25, I made the decision to stop participating in anything paranormal. No more writing, no more practicing, no more discussion. I had tried so hard to figure out a coherent model of reality where things made sense. To test things, to theorize, to experiment… but ultimately I couldn’t make sense of everything. So I put it down and moved on.

I kept having out of body experiences though.

During my years of obsession, I practiced meditation and experienced many different altered states of consciousness (drug free). I created a map in my mind. And even though I stopped practicing, I still have that map, and can navigate it pretty easily.

Lately though… I have been becoming more interested in out of body experiences again. I’ve been developing an interest in non-human intelligence, and I’ve been reminded of some experiences I had in the past while out of body.

Now that I’ve opened myself up to it more, I’ve been having more weird experiences again.

I want to start writing about my experiences, for three reasons:

  1. It will help me to remember them. They may only happen every month or two, but over the years, it’s easy to forget specifics if I don’t write them down.
  2. There might be someone else out there, stuck, like I was at 25. My perspective has evolved a lot over the decades – maybe it would be helpful to someone else.
  3. At the very least, maybe others will find it interesting. It’s certainly not boring! I think my experiences are weird and noteworthy.

I titled this inaugural post Journeys Out of the Body in honor of Robert Monroe’s influential book. I don’t really know what to make of Robert Monroe, but I do feel a sense of kinship with him.

Having out of body experiences is a journey. I’ve been on that journey for 25 years. And now I want to invite you to follow along.
